Frequently asked questions

What types of therapy are available via telehealth?

Halcyon Health offers a range of evidence-based therapies delivered via secure video telehealth. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills, Schema Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Billie LaRosa tailors the therapeutic approach to your specific needs and goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.

Do I need a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

For Medicare-rebated psychology sessions, you need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). This plan allows up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year under the Better Access initiative. You can also self-refer and attend as a private patient without a plan, though you will not receive a Medicare rebate. WorkCover, NDIS, and CTP clients have their own referral pathways and do not need an MHTP.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has completed specialist training in mental health. They can diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, and provide medical treatments. A psychologist holds a postgraduate degree in psychology and delivers therapy, psychological assessments, and behavioural interventions but does not prescribe medication. At Halcyon Health, our psychiatrist and psychologist work together as a coordinated team, so your medication management and therapy are fully integrated.

Do you offer ADHD coaching and skills therapy?

Yes. Billie LaRosa provides ADHD-focused psychological support including CBT adapted for ADHD, executive function coaching, time management strategies, emotional regulation skills, and workplace accommodation guidance. This pairs with psychiatric ADHD management from Dr Perera and medication follow-up from our nurse practitioner. The coordinated approach means your therapist and prescriber communicate directly about your progress.
